What are some musicals for high school students with a majority of girls in the cast?

We are a small all-girl school but sometimes boys from our brother school try out. But many of the boys that do try out cannot sing. We don't have much of a budget and do with what we can get.(Our school neglects the performing and fine arts department a lot.) We really can't pull off any major musicals so off-Broadway shows are great too. If you guys have any suggestions it would be very appreciated. Thanks!

  1. the musical wicked has two leads that are women-- Glinda and Elphaba and you could probably work around the small parts to make them girls... and the lead roles for guys would probably just work with what you have! And this is a truly amazing musical too... i'm doing a shorter version in my musical theatre class and we have all girls! I think it'll work!! :) and for props- you could always re-paint previously used props, or double sided props so that way you can use them twice in the musical, and you don't need very many. if you have a really short time period for the musical you could also just take a chunk of it,... and it still turns out well!! :) your welcome!
  2. Several ideas come to mind: Songs for a New World (tricky score, but very rewarding), Nine, A Year with Frog and Toad (can be played by either men or women).....However most shows generally have a fair mix of both men in women. A show that has a majority of female parts would also be Gypsy (Two songs with men) and Thoroughly Modern Millie (Trickier with lots of dance, but with plenty of female roles).
  3. INTO THE WOODS! ITS REALLY GREAT! AND FUNNY TOO! MY THEATRE DEPT. JUST DID IT! I WAS LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD. IT WAS AWESOME!!
  4. ANNIE! Think about it, all the little orphan girls? Annie? Ms Hanagan? You could so gte away with annie!
  5. Into the woods is a good one?? Annie is also really good too Most of our school plays had girls playin mens roles.. We Will rock u is a really good one too! Good Luck x
